A better way to live?
…a place to start.
I look up from my phone and out the window, observe the groundhog feasting on clover and dandelion in preparation for winter.
Notice my breath as it enters and exits my nostrils. Marvel at how it breathes itself without me needing to set a reminder.
Step away from my desk to the sink down the hall; turn the faucet on the right a quarter; remove a glass from the cabinet and position it to catch the stream; watch the liquid rise; feel the glass get heavy; stop just before it overflows; lift the glass to my lips; tip the cool flow smooth on my tongue before disappearing down my throat.
Back to my desk to reread a book1 with a renewed heart.
And later share a remembered insight with my book club: Wherever I allow people to be in their full humanity is part of the revolution. And…I need to remember.
…I waver. Bite my lower lip. Reveal to them: I’m a people too.
I’ve been offering free creative courage sessions* to explore a new direction in my writing and coaching, and some themes are emerging. We’re caring, curious, creative humans…
…and sometimes we neglect to extend those values to ourselves. It’s hard to live our values when they oppose a prevailing culture that values being busy and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. It's designed to crush a creative spirit that knows there's a better, more human, way to live.
🧐 What do you value? Where do you struggle to include yourself in those values?
*And ICYMI: Is your creative self gasping for air? Let’s make space for it to breathe.
I’m exploring a new direction in my writing and my coaching, and my inner Artist says the most fun way to do that would be to coach you. I’m offering 20 free coaching sessions between now and November 21st and I’ve got a few spots left. Is one of them yours? If so, reply YES to this email and we’ll get it scheduled.
Until next time,
Ryn
If you could use regular reminders to extend your care, your generous spirit to yourself, I write The Creative Courage Project for you:
