Part three: The Idealist Who Gets Pulled by Others’ Plans for Them transforms into The Calm Custodian of Creation
Before, there was a blankness and monotony, now there is mystery in her eyes. She knows where she’s going, why she’s here, and though she can’t quite articulate it, that does not stop her.
(If you missed the first and second emails in this series, I’m sharing the story of how The Idealist Who Gets Pulled by Others’ Plans for Them transforms into The Calm Custodian of Creation as an invitation to notice if you recognize yourself anywhere in the story & to inspire a smoother way forward.)
“When was the last time you trusted someone to just bring you what you desired?” Julie of Caffeinated Tarot posed this as part of a recent weekly reading.
In October, I thought it would be fun to work through Chelsey Pippin Mizzi’s Tarot for Creativity* cover to cover, exploring each card in the tarot deck in the order laid out by the author. There’s 78 cards, and when I started there were 81 days left in 2024, so it seemed like a rad way to end the year!
On the third day, I realized I was writing this email series. I pulled the Four of Cups in response to the book's prompt: “What do I want to say through this creative project?”
The card depicts a disembodied hand presenting a cup to a person who seems uninterested in the choices or opportunities being presented to them. Some interpretations say that this card gives off “ungrateful” vibes. But…
…when I saw it, I remembered Julie’s question from the day before. She gave the example of asking the barista at the coffee shop for whatever they felt like making and trusting you’ll like it.
And it made me want to ask you: have you been settling for what seems available?
Chasing things that weren’t really for you because they were presented as practical or responsible or The Way Things Are Done.
Is it time to let your inner artist, rebel, witch—The Calm Custodian of Creation—lead?
When we lose track of what we want (or we never defined it in the first place), it's inevitable we’ll get pulled by other people’s “proven paths.”
🧐 If you trusted you would not fall, what would you do with your life?
What’s your true path to walk in this life?
Ready for part four? Read it here: how to make *your* work, not theirs
Until next time,
