Live the life you want—not the one you should

It requires creativity + courage to go your way in a world of people shouting they’ve got the best way (I like to think of it as The Cacophony of Shoulds)

When I write to you, there’s a blinking cursor over my shoulder wondering how the heck to write about living your “I could never do that…(could I?)” desires without becoming the Cacophony of Shoulds.

To help me with this conundrum, and because it might be fun, I’m experimenting with thinking of this not as a merely your favorite newsletter, but as The Creative Courage Club.

You don’t have to do anything different, I’ll still send you a newsletter, and you can do what you usually do. But…

As a subscriber, you could start to think of yourself as a member of a not-so secret club.

A club according to Cambridge online dictionary is “an organization of people with a common purpose or interest, who meet regularly and take part in shared activities,” so...

The Creative Courage Club is a group of very cool humans who want to ditch the prerequisites and live their way—while not bypassing all the ways that’s hard: the pressure from our culture and ourselves to always be palatable, productive, and above all: profitable.

We meet regularly in your inbox to practice:

• allowing ourselves to marvel, delight, create, explore—dream BIG—especially when life is going terribly wrong and it’d be easy to fall into despair

• returning to curiosity about what’s possible when what we desire seems impossible

• breathing while navigate this BS

As Club President, it’s my responsibility to:

1-5 times a month, send the members an essay, a poem, a reflection on a tarot card, a spell, a question, or another bit of creative writing for us to reflect on as we go about our days.

Whether you lurk or engage in the comments of the public version of each post, we’re a web of individuals connected by this digital space and shared purpose and there’s power in that.
