Making The Impossible Real (part one)
This might be the hardest
This is a part of a series exploring how we might start to make real the things we desire—personally and collectively—but deem “impossible.” If you’re just joining, read about the background of this series here and here.
An bird’s eye view of where we’re going
In my business where I help service providers with their website copy, one of the things I do is define the elements of people’s work, including:
What is the specific goal, outcome, or vision that they help their clients move toward?
What are the specific obstacles in the way?
What’s the method or framework they use to help people navigate around or overcome the obstacles in the way of their goals?
It might feel a little weird that I’m bringing marketing into this conversation, but if specifically naming these things can move you to buy something, surely they can move people in other ways too.
Let's start with the specific goal, outcome, or vision that we want to move toward. Personally, I find naming what I want to be the hardest part of creating change in my life. When I work with clients on their copy, this is often the hardest part too.
What’s the specific “impossible” we’re trying to make real?
It’s way easier to name what we don’t want. But then we’re only inspired to do just enough to get out of pain, frustration, or struggle. To do impossible things, first we have to name them. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just something that feels exciting to move toward, right now.
So…I want to live in a world where:
We all have the space to breathe and be. We can be who we are. Our basic needs—food, water, shelter, community—are abundant and freely available.
We treat other people like humans, not things to be extracted from (same for other beings and the planet). We value the thriving of all beings. We think it's absurd that we used to attach a human being's worth to what they are able to produce. And we see it as a collective responsibility that all people are fed and cared for.
We feel more joy, delight, awe, reverence, and wonder. Do you know how many things had to go right for you to even be here at this very moment?
Next time, we’ll talk about what’s getting in our way. For today, what feels like something that would be exciting to move toward? Personally, collectively, or both?

Wonderful thought and question Ryn!
Something I'm excited to move toward is expectation-less creating. Prior to this month, it was space I found myself creating from. After a handful of challenging journaling sessions I feel like I'm moving closer to this place once again.
What Jamal said, and: I would like to move towards creating shamelessly without strings attached; to ditch the feeling that I have to pay my dues, to have all my ducks in a row, all the organizing and cleaning done, all the bills paid, all the grind in, before I can sit in the creative space. To not feel like I have to "earn" creativity. Because when I'm in that space, there's never enough I can do to feel worthy of it. Why can't I just feel worthy because I want to create?
